Some of our tenants may be eligible to apply to buy the property they live in at a discount through our right to buy scheme.
Preserved Right to Buy and Right to Acquire are schemes which allow some of our tenants to apply to buy the property they live in at a discount. You’ll need to fill out a Right to Acquire application form to be considered.
If you were a tenant of Durham County Council on 13 April 2015 and your home was transferred to us as part of the Stock Transfer process, then you may have a Preserved Right to Buy.
Further details of the Right to Buy scheme (which operates in a similar way to the Preserved Right to buy scheme) can be found on the government website.
If you don’t have a Preserved Right to Buy, you may have a Right to Acquire your home if you’ve had a public sector landlord for 3 years.
Durham County Council assists us in operating the Preserved Right to Buy and Right to Acquire schemes.
If you are interested in buying your home, want to receive an application pack or have a particular question then you can telephone 03000 26 0000 and ask to speak to the Right to Buy Team.
Further details of the Right to Acquire scheme can be found here.
