A key worker has found the ideal place to call home thanks to one of believe housing’s least-known, and best value, opportunities.
Surgeon’s assistant, David Handy approached believe housing in his search for an affordable home after seeing how a family member had been helped. Although he was initially looking for a bungalow, the 61-year-old was quickly taken by a ‘housing+’ apartment at Donnini House in Easington.
housing+ accommodation provides all the independence of private individual apartments, but with secure access and the added benefit of communal spaces to socialise. They are perfect for anyone, aged 50 or over, who values their independence but is looking for a strong sense of community.
“When I was shown the flat, I could see how I could turn it into somewhere really nice to live, it was ideal for me.” Mr Handy said.
The social side of the apartment in Donnini House is also a big benefit for David. “I’ve met all the other tenants; I like to talk!” He added.
Mr Handy is also hoping to put his gardening skills to use in some of the communal outdoor areas with other tenants.
Donnini House is one four housing+ units that currently have available properties in east Durham. Jubilee Centre in Seaham, Primrose Court in Blackhall, and Robinson House in Horden all offer similar benefits. Communal facilities include a laundry, accessible communal gardens, guest rooms and indoor space for social activities.
Simon Bartlett, Customer Experience Business Lead at believe housing, said: “For lots of people housing+ offers the perfect mix of independence and community. There’s totally independent space to call your own, but there’s always a friendly face to spend some time with nearby.
“I’m really pleased that Mr Handy has found Donnini House such a great fit. He certainly seems to be making friends and I hope he’s going to be happy there for years to come.”
housing+ flats start from just £62.61 a week for a studio apartment, including service charges. More information is available from believe housing’s Lettings Team on 0300 1311 999 or hello@believehousing.co.uk
