repointing a wall

The video takes you through some quick and simple steps on how you can repoint and rejoint a wall.

For this repair you will need:

  • Pointing trowel
  • Brick jointer
  • Bricklaying trowel
  • Two buckets
  • A pail of water
  • Premixed sand and cement

You can also follow along with the steps below:

step one

To make your mortar mix add the recommend water to your premixed sand and cement.  Continue mixing until you get to the right consistency.

step two

Add a small amount of mortar mix to the pointing trowel and transfer the mixture over to your bricklaying trowel. Tap the back of your bricklaying trowel until the mixture sticks.

step three - jointing

With the mixture on your bricklaying trowel, apply some mortar to the jointer and then joint into the existing jointing. Continue along the joint until the joint is completely filled.

step three - pointing

With the mixture on your bricklaying trowel, scrape a small amount of mortar onto the edge of the pointing trowel and push in between the bricks, making sure it touches where the existing mortar is.

step four

Use a rag or a brush to clean up any loose bits that might have fallen on the ground.

top tip

Whether you’re jointing or pointing, you’ll have to leave it for a few minutes to set, before brushing it with a rag or soft-handled brush.
