However there are a number of things you can do which you do not need our approval for. These works can be carried out without go-ahead from believe. You must read the safety in your home booklet before carrying out any works, and get in touch with us if you are unsure about anything regarding safety in your home.

  • Installation of Smart meters for Gas, Water or Electric.
  • Internal painting and decorating.
  • Laying carpets or vinyl floor coverings.
  • Redecoration or replacement of internal doors (replacement doors with glass must be kitemarked safety glass)

Please note that due to some laws, restrictions and planning approvals there are also some improvements which we are not able to give permission for now or in the future.  These are ponds, glass greenhouses, cat flaps, chicken coops, fossil fuel appliances (such as gas fires or log burners),  painting of external brickwork or upvc windows and any alterations or decoration to Fire Doors.

Please be aware if you carry out any home alterations without written permission you may be in breach of your tenancy agreement. This could result in legal action being taken and you being charged to correct any work done.
