Nearly 60 new affordable homes are set to transform a disused site on the northern edge of Peterlee after planning approval was granted today.
The £9.8m project by believe housing will see a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and bungalows built on land off Stephenson Road in the town. The brown field site has been awaiting redevelopment for several years and is seen as ideal for homes, being close to existing amenities.
All of the new homes will be affordable and available through County Durham-based housing association believe housing.
In total 23 two-bedroom, 30 three-bedroom and six four-bedroom homes will be constructed. Six of the new homes will be bungalows, to meet growing needs for wheelchair accessible homes in the area.
Land and Partnerships Business Lead at believe housing, Tom Winter, said: “It’s great to have planning permission for this site. Our development programme has a real focus on transforming brown field sites and integrating new homes into existing communities. This site fits the bill perfectly.
“We’ve seen really strong demand for new homes in the Peterlee area in recent years. This will be our sixth development in the town and I’m confident that it’s going to be a popular one.”
believe housing’s 2,500 home new-build programme has won awards for tackling sites that private sector housing developers would not consider. It has already delivered homes in communities stretching from Rookhope in the rural north Pennines to Seaham on the Durham coast.
Building work will be carried out by County Durham-based contractors Partner Construction, ensuring the project delivers the maximum possible impact for the local economy.
